Interview with the Medical Board

Post

The Medical Board consists of a body of three physicians who are independent of NYCERS.

Once you have submitted all supporting documents and your case manager determines your application is complete, you will be scheduled for your interview with the Medical Board. (Translation and sign language services are available upon request.)

During your interview, the Medical Board will review your application and supporting documents, ask you questions about the disabling condition(s) listed on your application for disability retirement,* and, in some cases, conduct a physical examination.

*Conditions not listed on your disability retirement application will not be considered by the Medical Board even if you have provided evidence supporting those unlisted conditions.

You must confirm your appointment to interview with the Medical Board at least seven days in advance by calling (347) 643-3000.

Failure to appear for your appointment before NYCERS’ Medical Board, without medical proof that you were unable to do so, will result in official suspension of your disability retirement application. Depending on your employment status, you may not be eligible to reapply for disability retirement.
