Special Durable Power of Attorney (POA)

A Special Durable Power of Attorney allows you to name one or more agents whose authority is limited to retirement benefit transactions involving NYCERS and does not apply to any other matters. It stipulates a near unlimited authority, granted by you (the principal) to your agent/s, to manage your NYCERS account and make beneficiary changes but allows you to make modifications to limit and/or expand their authority to act on your behalf. For example: By default, your agent(s) can designate non-agents as your beneficiaries, but you can limit their authority and forbid any beneficiary changes or expand it to allow them to designate anyone as beneficiary, including other agents and themselves.
