Tier 3

Your Tier is generally determined by your title and the date you joined NYCERS.

You are a NYCERS Tier 3 member if you are a:

  • Uniformed Correction Force member who joined NYCERS on or after July 27, 1976; OR
  • Uniformed Sanitation Force members, Uniformed Correction Force members or District Attorney Investigators who became employed in such title on or after April 1, 2012, are enrolled into a modified Tier 3 22-Year Retirement Plan.

New members in a Tier 3 job title are limited to participation in the 22-Year retirement plan only. All other Tier 3 retirement plans are closed to new members. Learn about Membership/Tier Reinstatement.

If you cease to be employed in any of the titles above, you will no longer be a Tier 3 member and your new tier will be determined by the date you joined NYCERS:

  • Tier 4 – Joined NYCERS between July 27, 1976, and March 31, 2012
  • Tier 6 – Joined NYCERS on or after April 1, 2012
