2010 Early Retirement Incentive

The CUNY Board established the following open periods during which eligible members may retire. The effective date of retirement MUST be a date within the open period for the Part under which a member retires.

Part A

For non-college faculty

August 31, 2010 – November 24, 2010

For college faculty

December 29, 2010 – January 27, 2011

Part B

For eligible members

July 1, 2010 – September 28, 2010

A new law adopted by Puerto Rico provides that all birth certificates issued in Puerto Rico prior to July 1, 2010 are invalid, effective September 30, 2010. Puerto Rico has established a process to apply for new birth certificates. Online applications are currently being accepted at www.pr.gov. Affected members who are near retirement should apply for a new birth certificate as soon as possible. Valid birth evidence is required to calculate retirement benefits. In lieu of a birth certificate, NYCERS may accept birth evidence alternatives. Some alternatives may require an affidavit.
